Title: Oliver level
Post by: jimwrench on August 01, 2011, 02:04:39 PM
Saw a level vial and mounting plate at auction today that read ( Oliver Farm Equipment Co. Shelbyville,  Il.) Unfortunately the rest of level was missing.Didn't know Oliver made levels. Anybody ever seen a whole one?

Did Stanley or Davis ever make levels that they put advertising or someone elses name on?  The certainly did it on planes, for example, Stanley made planes for Keen Kutter. I just haven't seen levels that they did that way.

Just a stray thought, are sure it went in a level, and not, perhaps on some piece of equipment that was supposed to be level when used?

Don't know if Stanley or Davis did contract levels. Thought of the possibility it was for mounting on a piece of farm machinery but have no clue as to what it would be. Was just a standard brass 4 screw mounted escutheon plate. Should have bought it as it sold with another level vial and the two didn't bring much money. Didn't really look like advertising as the Oliver name was just where you would expect to see Stanley logo.
