Heres a large box end wrench with a 3 1/2 inch opening (across flats) and an overall length of 20 1/2 inchs. Only marking is a (M) in a diamond. Ever seen this one before ?
-
M in the diamond would be Frank Mossberg Co. Massachusetts.
I would wild guess perhaps a truck hub cap wrench.
but will look for a possible answer.
-
Your right it looks like a Mossberg logo but I wonder why on a cast wrench? They were a drop forged factory and I think this is the only cast wrench I have seen with the logo.
The wrench is not rare but I have never been able to identify it. Send it to the orphanage.
-
Seems odd that it's not symmetrical, only for one direction use?

Skip, how about if you use it as shown to loosen and flip the wrench over to tighten ?

Have only found two foundries that use a (M) in a diamond. One whose name I lost uses a tall narrow diamond unlike the one on this wrench. The other is the Mueller Co of Decatur. Evidently their foundry used a (M) in a diamond but haven't found picture to compare. Stopped by the local Mueller museum this morning but they are only open on Thurs,Fri & Sat afternoon. Guess I'll check them out when I get back from Lake of the Ozarks.

Mueller foundry in Decatur is an old company that made valves, some were gate valves,'
it may be an old gate valve open/close wrench ?
-
We were still installing mueller valves in the 90's I think.

I have a wrench similar to that one.. check out my recent listing "fire related tools" in the what is it section. It, too, has a diamond logo but I couldn't make out the letter in the diamond.
cheers
