Title: Extremely small Wilton bullet vise
Post by: mikeswrenches on January 24, 2017, 05:42:35 AM
At last years M-WTCA Peach Meet in Madison, GA noted miniaturist Paul Hamler was there. He mentioned as we were talking, that he had tired of making miniature planes and was going to make some different things. It turned out that his next project was to be a Wilton bullet vise.

A year later mine arrived in the mail. It's a little difficult to grasp how tiny this thing is by looking at the pictures. The vise it is sitting on is a baby Wilton with 2 in. jaws...this one has 1/2 in. Jaws and is but 2 1/2 in. long.

Paul made the bodies from bronze and even made jaw inserts that are held in by tiny screws. Everything works, including the swivel base.
I opted for black rather than the traditional gray because I thought it would show off the lettering better.

A true work of art!

Mike

I knew he was making them because I saw his blog on Face Book. they are incredible, how did you score one? I would love to have one in my collection. The story he tells is he was asked to machine a kit that was sold and made a half sized of that miniature kit. He is remarkable in the miniatures he is able to build. I have two of his planes.

I probably should have mentioned that Paul is also making one that is a bit larger. I will find out next week when I see him, what the dimensions are for that one.

Les, he told me pretty much the same thing. Apparently the man bought 2 kits and gave one to Paul in exchange for machining one for the man. Paul indicated that it was much more difficult than it looked at first.
