Title: 1"-14 NS Tap
Post by: lptools on March 24, 2018, 03:56:06 PM
Hello, I have been trying to fill in a large Tap & Die Set.I have been looking for a 1"-12 NF Bolt Tap for a while. But today I looked at the list of contents to the set, and it calls for a 1"-14 NS Bolt Tap. Is that an unusual size? Thanks, Lou

Both sizes have such widespread application that there never has been enough pressure to finally eliminate one.
If you want to be covered, better get them both.

Hello, Thanks for the info. That is what I will do, include both. Thanks again, Lou

Be sure to double check any application.
I have seen expensive mistakes made when 'assuming' which one was correct.
Confirm the bolt or whatever before tapping the hole.
Seriously.

Yeah, 1"-14 UNF has pretty much surpassed 1"-12 NF in recent years.  I know I use 1"-14 UNF on a lot of equipment I design today.
