Post by: lptools on June 13, 2018, 07:29:27 AM
I know when it is time to clear off the workbenches when the only unoccupied horizontal surfaces are the washer, dryer, and the floor!!!! Regards, Lou

That looks just like a pic of my washroom. Lots of stuff to clean up.
I just came home with two drawknives, a firehose tool, a cobbler's hammer, a Plomb WF 23 spinner with a screwdriver socket, a Plomb body hammer, and a yet unknown old, old socket set in most of a wooden box.  The pieces are all marked with an A prefix. I know I have some more of them around here somewhere.
The universal joint, itself, is 4 5/8" long.
And a little bitty Vlchek WBC 1012 double box wrench. 5/16" by 3/8".  It will fit right in.

I ran out of floor space a long time ago. I now hang most stuff from the ceiling. I am also building more shelves to store stuff. I just picked up two more small metal cabinets that have plastic drawers to store small hardware. I have been buying all the decent brand cheap tools boxes I can find also.

The problem with shelves is that they usually require walls.  And my walls are already hooks and shelves!

My shelves are attached to the wall at a 90 degree angle with one end fastened to the wall. The bottoms are fastened to the concrete floor with anchor bolts and the top of all the shelves are tied together at the top with 2X4s. It is very strong. I even have a hand crank winch built into one of the shelves with a overhead cable going to a metal beam to lift 100 engines that I can't do by hand anymore.

I started out with shelves and hooks years ago, then moved on primarily to salvaged kitchen cabinets where I could and a few shelves tucked in here and there where I did not have room for more cabinets. Cabinets allow for the storage of much more stuff than shelves simply due to their design in my opinion. Plus, when you close the cabinet doors all of your "crap" is hidden from view making the shop look better.

I've been out of space for some time. During this past Winter when I was sorting out and organizing tools (Summer is for finding them and de-rusting) I decided to place them all on modified moving dollies just to make it convenient to move and reorganize. I'm glad I did as we had some horrendous rain this spring and I had some flooding, first time in 25 years of living here.  The tools and boxes made it through fine. I highly recommend raising everything off the basement floors  these day.
