Title: A Ron Darner Whatsit from MrChuck
Post by: johnsironsanctuary on January 09, 2012, 10:19:51 AM
Ron, my secret santa present is this big ol' 1/2" drill gun. The mfg tag was missing when MrChuck got it in the 60's. I had a mental cartoon of a young  Mr Chuck in an alley, talking to a man in a long overcoat who is holding one flap open and saying"Pssst, hey mister, wanna buy a drill gun?" It's funnier when you know that the drill weighs 18 pounds.
I saw a Van Dorn catalog on ebay and the drill on the cover was pretty close, but not exactly the same. What do you think?

Reminds me of some of the old Black & Decker drills but I don't have any pictures to check. I am probably way off base on that guess.

I think Van Dorn is a good guess, John...

I believe that it is a Black & Decker.  Here is the bottom of page 6 from the B&D 1953 catalog: yours would be catalog #40, I think, since I don't see the reversing switch.

Thanks Ron! I'll file the ad with the documentation I have. I appreciate the help.

Gives me great pleasure that the "beast" has found a home he will be comfortable in.
I used the "he" instead of a "she",, because it is the driller, not the receiver.

Those old geezers sure use lots of electricity at that rest home. And apparently they drink a lot of 7-up.....

Here at the Black & Decker Rest Home. while some of our guests do suffer from excessive power consumption, 7-Up consumption and outer insulation cracking, we are proud of the fact that none our patients suffer from dementia, incontinence or fits of violent behavior.
