As luck would have it, the Jesus spring in the drive mechanism gave me no clue as to where it's spozed to go in the guts of the drive set. The rest of it I have figured out. The small tension spring is where it needs to be internally, but this V shaped spring goes under the two plates some how, but the small holes in each plate don't sem to laign with the prongs on the spring. Taking a photo of the drive set prior to the dis-assembly wouldn't have helped in this case, the thing was covered in moly grease.

I don't see a the V-shaped spring in the photo. There is a shaft clip in the photo which should fit into a ring groove on the shaft and hold the whole mechanism together.

Click on the photo of the parts and it should enlarge a bit. The spring in question is sitting at about 11 o'clock to the mechanism. It's in the shape of a V with a circle at the bottom where the two arms meet. The round center part is too small to fit over the center shaft. All I can tell you is that it was under the two flat pieces, but what configuration I couldn't say. There are two small holes; one in each flat piece, but how those prongs would get in those holes is beyond me. The recessed area in the mechanism opposite the pawl might be reamed out t o house this spring, but again; vertical or horizontal...and, what the heck is its purpose in the first place....?
Maybe Bonneyman can help on this one....

I till try to take pictures tomorrow. I just did a 1/4" with the same mechanism.
I would explain it in words, but that is harder.
The tip is that it goes the opposite way you first think. Seems backwards but it works. :)
One end incorporates the little bend in the spring with the hole in the plate, and the other doesn't.

Here we go!
Mine says Blackhawk, and I think that is who made yours too.
Here is the bottom washer. See the spring? The knuckle is down in the hole.
The bent end of the spring (has a tiny leg at the end) goes through the bottom washer toward the outside.
See the other end of the spring? It is sticking up through the slot. Just loose at this point.
Now goes the second washer. See the tab on the washer? Tab sticking up?
This lines up across from the little spring which is now sticking up through the little hole in the4 second washer.
When its seated and everything looks just like this, use the tiny e-clip to secure it.
Now wiggle on the top selector.
Warning...........It won't want to go easy the first time you wiggle it on there. Keep wiggling until it sits down flush and flat.
Now, hold the mechanism by the drive plug. Hold it up vertical all assembled. Slip the ratchet body down over top of it, wiggling the mechanism inside.
When you get that down flush and lovely, add the anti friction washer (like a plastic washer) and set the retaining ring.
OK now here is the weirdest part. I swear its true.
Twist the selector and it will mess up. The ratchet will lock, or it will slip, or something bad, I guarantee it
won't work.
So now, you reverse the selector. Still won't work, don't get impatient.
Back and forth with the selector. Keep trying it.
It will do everything bad but finally it wiggles its silly butt "into the pocket" and the ratchet will turn soft as butter, and positive easy direction change.
It needs to wiggle itself into a very certain position, and maybe Blakhawk had an easier way to preset the thing?
But for me it takes some letting it re-set itself. Which it will.
Then it just works fine as frog hair.

Scott: Youjr pieces are slightly different than mine, but the design is the same. I had to be very careful the spring didn't go BOING when guiding it into the 2nd hole. I had a little trouble getting the E clip on, but it did finally settle in and the rest was pretty easy. Thanks a bunch for the pix and your time. The NB is like butter now.
