Rare Craftsman ratchet on eBay
« on: October 26, 2014, 09:04:15 AM »
It's the one with the ratchet in the middle between a vertical handle and a horizontal handle.
I don't know if anybody is interested, but the link will show it to you.

There are 2 of them at least on eBay at the moment, one just sold a few days ago for $79.90 plus shipping.

The seller said he has had it for 55 years.  I find that hard to believe, because I do not think that Craftsman ratchets have been using that style reversing lever for that long.  Anyone else have specific knowledge of that factoid?

That direction lever doesn't appear in the 1957 cat. but is in the 1959 cat., and last appears in the 1966 cat. but not in the 1968 cat. I don't think you will find one with a different direction lever unless its been replaced. As for the speeder ratchet, appears
in the 1960  cat but not in the 1964 cat. Hope that helps.

I had one for years but they weren't really very useful.  Should have kept it I guess.

Chuck, It didn't look very useful to me either...probably why I don't have one, although I've certainly bought enough other useless stuff.

I like mine, as a collectible, not a user.  They were only in a couple of catalogs. I think mine is from between 1960 and 1962.

I liked it best as a user on a long extension, kind of like a long T handle wrench.

I keep itvwith my "v" series tools.

Long enough to sell, anyway!

I want one, but for $25!

I am much more of a tightwad. I paid $1.12, of which 65c was shipping. Mine is in great shape, except for a scratched owners mark.

The fact a majority desire them, coupled with my perception of their being less than handy, has me completely disinterested in owning one.  It does seem to consistently bring a nice price on Ebay, so I wouldn't mind "finding" one.
