Some time ago there was a discussion about replacing the leather washers on a roached-out Buck Bros. #7-20 hammer.
I bought one the other day but didn't want to try replacing the washers. Instead, I milled, sanded, and rasped two pieces of oak to clad the area. A little epoxy and a day of clamp time--followed by much more rasp and sandpaper work gave me a sweet go-to hammer for my shop.
This ever been done before?
