Can you read this
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:27:58 PM »
Can you read what is written on this wrench ? Actually 2 wrenchs used to show front and back. I was segregating wrenchs of Asian origin and USA sources but couldn't ID these. Could that language be Greek ? I don't speak Greek ?

What I can make out looks to be Chinese, and you spent money on these?

I bought a flat of wrenchs and I'm culling out this kind. I did get Snap-on,Plomb,Blue point ,Mac ,Stanley ,Vlchek,Crafteman etc.
Maybe a couple hundred wrenchs and about half are of Asian origin.

I am told that the photograph is actually upside down. If you rotate
it 90 degrees, the top image (the one with three characters) contains
the glyphs for "Shang" and "Hai" with a corporate logo of some kind
in between. I.e. "Shanghai."  The bottom image (the one with four
glyphs) says "manufactured by" followed by a name of some kind that
contains the sign for "3" in the middle of it. Unidentified.  So best guess
is that this was made by a company in Shanghai. The language is
Chinese.

(this from one of my student workers here in the library, who also
works part-time as a cataloguer for our Asia Library division. She
is a bit tentative because her fluent languages are Spanish (she
is Argentine), English, and Japanese.)

Hope this helps!

I meant 180 degrees, of course. Sorry.

Heres one I can read. Its a 1/4 inch combination Armstrong-Blackhawk 15642. Assume it was made for Blackhawk by Armstrong.
Nothing real special but I think its cuter than a speckled pup.
This was part of the lot with the Chinese wrenchs. I'll keep this one for its visual and tactile appeal.

Jim,

The Blackhawk wrench may not be so special all by itself. But that little guy might have been part of what I think is a pretty special set.
