Old claw hammer head.
« on: November 02, 2016, 04:56:04 PM »

I can't tell you anything about this except it's Spanish & would've had a round "slip through" handle.

Thought you might like to see it.

Sadly I can't make out what's written in the cross.

Nothing very special I know but it makes me smile, it's like a 3D cartoon of a claw hammer!

If anyone could tell me anything about it that'd be great.

Very unusual overall.   Looks like someone mistook the claw for a ball peen.   It does appear to be forged.

  Sorry for the late reply.

That really should have read " I found it in Spain" rather than it's Spanish, it could be from anywhere really.

The "X" mark is in fact lettering of some description but impossible to make out.

May I ask, why do you ask?  :-)

It's now got a handle & found some friends!

Before the two smaller ones were cleaned up, the middle one is clearly marked with the universal microwave symbol......

Those look real nice! Are they all from Spain? Funny how the design is so different from hammers I see around here, and yet they perform the same functions.

Ooh, by the way, the weather app on my phone says that's the symbol for fog
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

Nice job with the cleaning and handles; although that piece of pipe looked pretty classic.

Hi Plyerman,  as far as I know they are Spanish.
Of course incresingly over the past few decades Spain has had pretty much the same choise as the rest of Europe (& USA if imported here) in brands of claw hammer, but funnily in some older iron mongers "slip" handle claw hammers can still be found. A few below, the smallest having an oval section handle rather than round.

Thanks for the fog symbol comment, made me laugh.

I was born & schooled in northern England, lived in southern Spain for the past 22 years.

  Glad you like the hammers.

   Thanks.
Yes they are often in a mess when found, that handle was actually dirty wood but too far gone to save, it does look like pipe, & yes like most here I have seen some "wonderful" pipe handles.

That handle design has the virtue of being self-tightening.  Over the years, I've replaced a few hammer handles that had shrunk too much for salvation with yet another wedge.

Nice work on the clean up. The handle really complete the picture.
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....
