For Rusty and ScottG Big old cutoff saw
« on: October 28, 2011, 09:42:30 PM »
This a big old cutoff saw Belonging to Mr. Burton Marsh, that dates back to the 20's, way before OSHA.  It is powered I believe by a 1 and 1/2 horse hit and miss engine..  The sawyer holds the handle on the end of the saw blade and lifts and lowers and guides the blade.  Heaven help you if someone engages the drive before you have a good hold on the handle because no one else is going to help you with that big saw blade whipping around.  All of that said it is a fun and awesome machine to run.  This is a one man crosscut saw the easy way.

That makes two of us!  In fact, I'd like to put it in action.

Cool! The Big drag!
I have only seen smaller ones. Must have been some mighty big trees nearby.

Yeah there used to be a big lumber operation in our area.  They still cut large ( by our standards) oak, hickory, yellow popular and red cedar.  It is crazy to run that saw .  Nothing will stop it if it gets away from you, not even your ankles.  I'll get photos this spring at Spring Farm Days when we run it.
