actually i believe those opening slots held dies for putting bends in pipe. mostly steam/hot water cast iron radiators in ol' timey homes back in the day.

Wow.  Not the usual vise.  Also never heard of Willimantic, Conn - now part of Norwich.

NO, Willimantic is a small older city within the town of Windham CT.
Norwich is also a small older city, about 10 miles south along the Thames river

you never heard of the city with the frog bridge ????

Route 32 goes thru the city.

same route 32 that goes thru Monson, Massachusetts, where I hang my hat.

Love the vise, but I am more enamoured with the sharpener behind it it. I looked at the other photos, cool tool!

I also saw the scenery back of your shop in your photos over looking the river.  Very nice.
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....
