Strange, Unknown Craftsman Tool with dial and pointy tip.
« on: June 23, 2017, 12:49:40 PM »
I found this strange tool. I know nothing about it nor its history.

All I Know is that its a craftsman tool with a pointy tip and a dial that spins when I spin the tip, and there is a dial that goes around to 100 in increments of 10.

I have attached images of what it looks like. There are some other things that I'm not sure if they are for the tool or not (although they fit pretty nicely on the top, so I assume they are). What's in the images is all I have.

I really hope someone can help to identify this strange tool!

That type is called a speed indicator.  It only measures revolutions.  You need to have a stopwatch to get RPM with that one.  The different tips are for measuring revolutions on different things like belts, pulleys, shafts, gears, etc.  There are some brands/types that read directly in RPM.

I have about 35 in my collection.  I will have to post some pictures sometime. .Based on the style, I would say that one was made by Millers Falls.

It's marked "Craftsman", probably made by MF for Sears?

That is what I was implying.  I guess I could have been more clear.  Are you going to the MJD Tools auction in July?  I had to get a regular job, so I cannot make it up there until Friday afternoon.

John you were clear enough, I just didn't pay attention like I should have.

We figure on getting there late Tuesday. My wife couldn't go last year and she is really looking forward to it this year. I just have to remember not to leave my bidders card with her...she cost me a couple dollars in Nashua last year.
Is there anything I can do for you until you get there?
