« on: June 29, 2017, 06:51:11 PM »
while checking on a patent for my anvil/vise; patent number 1,111,103  I checked on the patentee's other known patents,
he had an earlier patent for a vise.

but, he also had a patent for a anvil/vise with forge, blower and drill.

 patent number 1,266,724 issued May 21, 1918

Carl Shields, Rock Island, ILL.   CO-FOUNDER OF THE Rock Island Mfg. Co. which was operating until approx. 1930

The DATAMP entry for patent #1,266,724 includes two photos of the combination anvil / vise / forge. (http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=1266724&typeCode=0 )

The more features you add to a tool, the more useless it gets.

Sort of like a metal workers ShopSmith.   It will do everything, if you are skilled and careful.   Saw one up close, and the anvil top lifts off,  not exactly for heavy work.  Still a fascinating tool.
