Hello, I am sure this has been discussed before. I am looking for a 5449 Proto 1/2" Drive Ratchet Repair kit. Best source, or place to buy? Thanks, Lou

It might be free under lifetime warranty. I would talk to a local dealer or contact Proto online.

I have vintage photos they replaced free of charge. They did not give a rebuild kit, just replaced whole item.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Call Proto customer service up and I'm pretty sure they will send you one.

Hello, Ken. Thanks for the info. I called Proto and they were very helpful. They are shipping me a repair kit, free of charge, not even a shipping charge. Thanks again, Lou

The last time I called Proto I got a very rude woman on the line. She would not send me a kit and told me there was plenty of kits for sale on the internet. I have about 3 kits for every ratchet they sell. I can't remember the name of the company I bought them from, but they were about $13.00 per kit for the 1/2 inch drive Proto ratchet. Most Proto ratchets I have come across only need a good cleaning. I went to my local nut & bolt store and bought packs of screws to replace the worn out / buggered up side  cover screws on the pear head models. 100 screws to the pack for about $6.00  and I am trying to find a seller of the conical springs for the pear head models. At last count I had 71 Proto pear head ratchets. I also have Plomb, Urrea, Armstrong and a bunch of import Proto knockoffs. It's no wonder my wife, my kid, my granddaughter, the doctors and the Judge says I am crazy.

Nah, you just have a collecting problem.   Send 'em to me and it'll clear right up.

I have seen a bunch of company's that sell conical springs, but they want me to send samples to try and match them up where their products and I have just been too busy / lazy to get around to it. I am hoping to find a local company so I can just walk in the door and buy them. I don't like sending for stuff if I can help it. I have been busy. Trying to make my garage air tight so I don't freeze while playing with my toys like past winters.

I buy every Proto ratchet that I find in good condition and priced right. I still need to get a long handled 1/2 drive one in chrome to replace the one that grew legs and walked away along with my long handled 3/8 drive chrome ratchet, my chain saw and my wife's PS3 game system. about a year ago.
