Hammer?
« on: November 08, 2017, 06:03:40 PM »
I bought a collection of 400 or so hammers the other day.  A ton of unique stuff but this one I can't identify.  Maybe it's not a hammer as there were a few non-hammer tools.  But, after seeing what a broom makers hammer looks like it could be some specialty kind.  The head is 3" long.

It looks like a "shoemakers" creasing tool. It’s not a hammer.

Mike has the right idea, but I think it is a glazing iron.  It was heated and used to apply and smooth wax finishes.  You often see them with partially burnt handle ends around the ferrule.

WVTools, glazing? What industry?  I think of window glazing, and I doubt that this is what you are referring to.

Thank you for the answer!  I never would have guessed.  Here are some pictures of the group of hammers.  They don't do them any justice, though.  I got 13  5-gallon buckets full and 10 display cases full.  I've sold 50 on the fleabay already and will sell a lot more.  I'm keeping my favorites to add to my collection.  Apparently the guy sold a bunch the day before so I can't imagine what I missed.  And I left about half behind that didn't interest me.
