Hello bird, good to hear from you and sorry about your loss.
I had to google Butt chisel as I wan't sure what the actuall definition is, the info I found says a butt chisel has a blade less than 4" long, so , to answer your questuion, no these are not butt chisels. The set I have vary a bit in length, probably from sharpening over the years. The longest is 10 1/2". My Stanley book calls them bevel edge cabinet chisels. The blabe is about 5 1/2" long, the shank about 2" and the handle around 2 1/2". The shaft extends up thru the Hickory handle and has a steel cap and what looks to be some sort of cushion between the wood and the steel cap which is about 1/8" thick. I don't know what the cushion is made of, it has a bit of give to it and kind of looks like a black hard rubber spacer. I can't tell how these were assembled maybe the top steel cap is screwed on?
My post is a little messed up, what I need is a 1/8" a 1" and a 1 1/4" Chisels with the SW logo and 3 patent dates. I'll go dig out the camera and see if I can post some pictures. Thanks Jim.
