New (old) Guy on Board
« on: April 12, 2018, 07:49:33 PM »
My buddy passed this site onto me today. I may be able to add a little of my knowledge here since I have been turning wrenches for more than 5 decades.  I might be 71 but I still have much to learn. Background is pipe fitting and welding for a pay check, hobbies vintage motorcycles.

Welcome to Tool Talk !

I spent a lot of time fixing bikes and cars, and a bunch of years at a large HD dealership as Service Manager.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Today was the first day over 65* in months, looking forward to trying out my new ride. A 1954 NSU Max I bought in October and recently got running after it's sleep since 1982.

Wayne, welcome to the tool forums here from beautiful Ohio (actually warm today ).   My experience with wrenches is to figure out which end to hit things with (just kidding ).

Welcome from the Missouri Ozarks!
Believe or not, each summer when I was young my parents would put me on a bus alone and tell the driver he's going to St. Louis. I guess either my Dad wanted me to learn about his birthplace or they just wanted me gone for a few months. I spent time in the Ozarks and Perryville on a farm. I sure learned a lot!

I do have photos of most of the bikes I have owned or restored over the years. The problem is the pics are on a memory stick and the file size way too big for here, and I'm too old to learn resizing. So here is a today picture of the 54 NSU, I only did mechanical work on it and it's staying a survivor with it's dents and rust. The first test drive went fine today, and typical like my 47 Indian. If you want to stop, start stopping a day earlier.  250cc single over head cam.
