Sorry guys... I like to share the stuff I do in the shops. No one else in my life takes an inkling of interest in what I do on my spare time, including my wife. And I'm a sucker for acknowledgment and approval - a down fall likely... I'll try to just hold out until MG comes back online.

since we are sharing and many of us are simple  please 'splain why a lathe needs such a sophisticated control.

doesnt he gear box/ belt pulley control the speed adequately?

or do you need the rpms exact for some work?

You don't have to according to Papaw. He said to make threads in the General Discussion section (this section)

Just more control. The belts on my lathe are a bit of a pain. It started because my motor blew bearings, and I have a problem needing to constantly make things better. That's the majority of what goes on in my shop. Changing things, adding systems, making things needlessly more complicated for my own personal enjoyment.
I have a tach, an ammeter display, voltage display, variable speed, push button start/stop and direction change. I needed to change the setup because things for a bit messy from adding bells and whistles.

I'd like to do the same thing to my mill too.

I agree this thread is our little home away from home without polluting the host site , kind of like an air lock.

Thanks to midnitemack for reminding me I'm a member here. With GG down I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms.

I realize that some things take time but this is an electronic age we live in. To be down for 17 days is outlandish. I'll keep waiting as all of you are, I just had to vent a little.
