these are pretty well used and i think the last owner (or before) enlarged the opening on the one.

Yes.   The wingnuts on the sides are used to open and close up the opening to hold the bit.   I was looking around in the garage today and found a square end screwdriver (long) which could be used, also.   I'll try to get a picture of that and my later stanley holder i "discovered*" at the same time.



*well, from where it was hidden in the garage.   :tongue:
