« on: June 16, 2018, 06:31:31 PM »
I went to only one garage sale today. I missed out on the Versa Vise that I saw in the CL ad pics. I did pick up some Dremel tools and a tap & die set. Here's what I got.
1. Dremel no. 370 series 2 variable speed with a bunch of bits.
2. Dremel no. 260 fixed speed with bits.
3. Dremel no. 290 variable speed engraver.
4. Dremel no. 232 flex tool.
5. Craftsman no, 52093 Kromedge metric threading set new in box.

I think the sets marked Kromedge were high speed steel and the regular sets were carbon steel. My Craftsman sets are carbon steel, the was a big difference in the price between the two kinds of sets.

As much as I dislike the metric system, I have bought quite a few metric tools for my last job.  The only metric tap and dies I have at the moment are Heli Coil taps for thread repair jobs when I worked as a engine mechanic.

I have a thread restore set that I use most of the time to clean up damaged threads. I used to use a tap , but my set works much better. I bought this tap set as mine is 25 + years old and quite a few are broke or missing. For the $ 7.00 I paid for this set is less than the one tap I use the most would cost me.

I share your dislike for metric, but I gave up years ago and worked hard to put together a decent set of metric tools to take care of whatever I might encounter. I am still 10 times heavier in standard tools than metric. Fortunately for me I still have more old stuff that takes standard to work on than metric.

I have never been able to wrap my brain around guys that for the most part don't even buy standard. I guess that thinking is part of being older than 50!

Nice grabs Ken. Great deal on the MM set. I have been using more metric tools the last 2 days than I normally do.
The driver seat in the Nissan Pathfinder quit working and I took everything apart several times and it worked one time. So have to order the pricey repair kit with a new motor and worm screws to move the seat. Nissan knew they had a problem and just hoped that everybody would run out of warranty before it acted up so the owner could pay for it.

I bought that same Metric set about 40 years ago when I had to work on a "metric" car. Still have the set and it comes in handy now that more and more of our stuff is metric- ized. Don't have the car any longer, 1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2
