Reality Check on Pricing
« on: July 14, 2018, 05:31:39 PM »
I dug this old one lung diesel generator I had out today, and it needs to hit the bricks. I know it'll be a niche buyer, maybe a prepper or old engine guy. Any thoughts here on how far near or far I am on price point?

I may post there. It'll have to be a local sale though.

The thing is not going back in the shed, and someone will buy it for a price that makes us both happy at the end of the day.

The Brook's Steam Up in Brooks Oregon is going on at the end of the month. They have a swap meet there for stuff like that. I have a large collection of appox 80 old gas engines, but I have no more room at the moment. Mine date from 1929 to about 1974. That is quite a find you have there with all the extra parts and paperwork. I had a chance to buy a Witte hit and miss gas engine a few months ago, but it was missing the magneto and carb. Whoever gets your Witte will be one lucky fellow. I have no idea as to value of your engine. Got to the SMOKSTAK old engine website and check out prices there. You might also go to YOUTUBE and check out the SmallEngineMechanic page. He knows a lot about Witte engines and may be interested in it.

man that is a sweet setup. 2.5 is a bit smallish but its a diesel and its NOS. I think that's a pretty fair price.

I'll 2nd or 3rd the smokstak. theys a lot of knowledge on that site regarding things such as this.

Wow that is cool, I have seen them on American Picker. That seems like a fair price.

Wish you weren't on the other coast.

Ok I'm waiting on registration approval at smokstak.

I did find a serial number list that dates it to 1943.

I figure it might sell to somebody coming through for Brooks. I may throw it in the bed of the pickup as I usually go the first day to cruise the swap.

If you can't sell it at the swap meet , I would put it on Ebay for twice that and offer a best offer option. You can offer pick up or shipping but at buyers arrangement . Something like that is pretty rare with all that stuff and never run.

Nice piece, I see the good in it. However think it’s more of a collectors piece then a user piece. The manuals an documents are a big bonus for collectors. All that said it’s gonna take a special collector at that price.

Either way it’s a neat piece ide love to have.

who gave that right to me.

Yah I agree I've started high. I'll let it soak a few days before the list price begins to spiral down. Like I said, it's not going back in the shed.

Price doesn't seem bad to me but I am not a collector.

Very cool piece.
