Is this a tire iron?
« on: April 06, 2019, 11:32:57 AM »
Recently acquired but just cleaned up today.  Has what looks like Moore Drop Forge "M in a circle" and the number 6 followed by two dashes.  Almost 18" long.  How old is it and what is the application?
Thanks

It does look like a tire tool I used to use for removing the lock ring on tires. Where I used to work we had a variety of different tools for that purpose, yours based on it's size looks like it would be for a passenger vehicle.

Thanks JD!  I looked up Kentool and there are similar irons in their catalog.

Just used a similar one last week putting tires on a 1942 Chevrolet military truck.  It is used in installing/removing the single piece ring.

Catch 22,  Was that a solid lock ring? I remember having a bar for solid rings and a different bar for split rings.... I think.
One thing I am sure of is that I would rather wrestle a semi truck tire than work on a 16" Ford tire.
It would be nice to see pics of your truck.

Thanks for the comments.  It's a keeper.  I don't expect to use it on split or solid rings but I bet it will come in handy around the shop as a pry bar.

Not a problem , jd.  I have two larger tire irons.  Bought one for very little money at a yard sale in N.J.  It has a "pry bar" end like this one and a spoon type end.  The other is a full size tire iron, found it on the side of the highway on my way home one day after work.
