Unusual Vise...what is it called?
« on: May 27, 2019, 06:38:19 PM »
I was going through my late father-in-law's stuff (he was a master carpenter) and found a flip-top bench vise (photos attached).  Couldn't find a manufacturer's name on it and was wondering what exactly it's called and what it may be worth.

Thanks for any ideas,
Harold

Adjustable angle drill press vise, at that.

Manufacturer matters here.  Palmgren vises, for instance, go for decent coin.  Unmarked for a lot less.  If you can find a maker's name on it, search eBay for completed sales with the same and the width of the jaws to get a sense of value.

Thanks for the replies.  I looked pretty closely and not see a name.  I'll check eBay to see what similar ones are going for.

If I didn't already own one, I'd be tempted to make you an offer...

UPDATE:  I cleaned the vise today and really scrutinized it for markings.  Using a strong light, magnifying glass, and the zoom function on my wife's phone camera, I can faintly make out  what appears to be "No.006" and then below it ' "PAxxxxxEN" ' (the x's stand for unreadable letters).  From this, I gather that it's a Palmgren vise.

Thanks again to all who helped.

Harold
