Craftsman C underline tappet wrenches
« on: June 11, 2019, 07:36:44 PM »
This set of four wrenches is underline C and also -v-.  Therefore I'm stumped as to when they might have been made.  They are numbered 1 through 4 and sizes 3/8 to 7/8.  I believe when these were made there were sets of four, but now the craftsman and other sets have more sizes.  Any ideas?

Now you can go buy a truck with a flathead motor, which is what tappet wrenches are ideal for.

Hey coolford,

I think the Craftsman underlined C was used in some version or another from the late 1930s to the early 1950s.  Could you post a couple close ups of the wrench head stamps?

From what I have seen, Sears allowed vendors to use up old inventory for quite a while before they changed to the blimp logo. That said, I have never seen mixed logos in a set before. Could one have been broken and replaced back in the day? I have several tappet wrenches with one end broken.

Well, here are a couple of pictures, they are poor but the best of several.  On one end 1st picture is Craftsman with the C underline and on the other end 2nd picture is the -v-.  The strikes are not deep, which affected the pictures.

Here is a picture of mine. The second one down is -v- marked and the next one down is the same size but earlier.

Your pictures are better than mine, but my wrenches have the underline C like your third one and on the other end -v-.
