xcell, a serious set of wrenches
« on: June 26, 2019, 04:36:04 PM »
Saturdays auction turned out well for me.  I had never seen a complete set of the xcell wrenches shown in the attached pictures.  Over the years I had see a few partial sets but nothing like these and especially in mint condition.  I don't think anyone even though they were worth having as I stole them.  Set has two small wrenches and two large ones, each with a straight and offset handle.  The wrenches for the small handles go from 3/8 to 3/4" and for the large handles 13/16 to 1 7/16.  Each handle size also includes an alligator wrench.  As you can see, a really fine set.  The empty slots in the box are the heads on the handles.

Wow!  What a great set of wrenches!  I’ve never seen those before.  That’s a top shelf score for sure.

I've got one of the smaller handles with a single head.  I've always liked them.  Primo set!
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....

The early history of Park Metalware is interesting -- very hand to mouth for a while so some of the early metal boxes for sets like that were hand made.  When they finally came up with durable plastic tool handles they named the resulting tools XCELITE & that line was so successful they finally dropped the other things and changed the company name to XCELITE as well.

I recently picked up an early set as well.  I'll add pics to this post later on.

Here are the others that I have at present.  First picture is a Park Metalware set in a thin box that cannot hold any more so it may be complete.  The second picture is also Park Metalware in a box with a sliding cover with three handles with a locking feature.  it has duplicates of each size.  The last picture is some loose wrenches with two handles that are hand stamped Patent Pending.  I don't know if these are Park Metalware although the wrench heads are the same as Park Metalware.  The handles have a different locking feature so may be Park before they finalized that feature.
