A good design is timeless
« on: October 08, 2019, 08:45:02 PM »
I was digging through a pail or rusty tools the other day at a yard sale and found a pair of early Channellock pliers. Classic design, I can spot them a mile away. Bought the pair for $1 and brought them home to clean up. First one was just what I expected, Champion DeArment Channellock #410 with an early patent date. The second one had a bit more rust but I was confident I could save it. Vinegar soak, wire brush, oil and wipe down, looks great! But... wait a minute... something's not right here.

Nice find. With that jaw profile they really bite hard and hold on. I have gotten a lot of pairs of Channel lock pliers over the years, but few with that jaw profile. The ones I have found both early and late are the more common models are in good condition. Channel Lock must have made millions of them. I have never found any that were made in Mexico. I have been finding a lot of Urrea tools from there the last few years.
