I have a small shop-made hammer made from two sizes of steel stock with that same twist and loop on the end.  Dated 1945.  Use it all the time.
9" overall.  Head is drilled and peened over.  7/8" by 1 11/16".  All parts are dimpled to give it a pleasing appearance.
No pix.
The ORIGINAL Northwoods.

Like Bill H said … beginning blacksmith class project. Learn how to heat, bend a loop, do a decorative twist, taper to a point. Then harden and temper.
