Pliers are 8" long. Will open to about 1-1/4". Anyone know who made them or what they were for.

Here is a nice post by my friend Woody on Garagejournal about such pliers. They came in Proto and other brand names.

That is a cool tool!! From the pics it looks like a little more than your average slip-joint pliers. Compound leverage?? Or Parallel jaw??

Made by Proto and P&C a Proto owned company. Compound leverage pliers. Pat. # 2600512 made fro appox 1954 to appox 1962. I Own 3 pairs of them. 2 pairs of Proto and one pair of the P&C brand. The handle pattern design on one pair of the Proto and the pair of P&C match. The second pair of Proto ones has a different pattern design on the handle. Proto most likely made them for other tool companies also.

I have a pair that I got when I was a kid back in the late 50’s. They are unmarked but have the “double herringbone” type handle grips like the P & C version.
