E-bay
« on: April 14, 2012, 07:11:23 AM »
Two part question maybe

If a book is being offered for 10 dollars starting price on e-bay and I put in a maximum amout of twenty dollars what shows on e-bay to other prospective buyers. 10.01....11.00....or the 20 dollars I put in as a maximum amount.

Same question though in referance to what does the seller see. Can he see my maximum amount?

Thank-you

If you are the first bidder on a $10 item everyone sees $10.
If someone else has bid before you, and you become the higher bidder, your higher but not max bid shows (unless your max becomes the higher bid)

The seller can never see your max bid while bidding is lower. Otherwise Mr. Burns could get his buddy Moe to bid just under your max.

The higer the price, the higher the bid increments. The lowest I've seen is 5 cents while the biggest I've seen was $50 (I'm sure there are higher ones)

The easiest thing to do is find an auction with a bunch of bids starting at 99 cents. Then check the bid history and view all bids.

How bid increments work As an auction-style listing proceeds, we'll automatically increase your bid on your behalf, up to your maximum bid, to maintain your position as the high bidder or to meet the item's reserve price. The bid increment is the minimum amount by which your bid will be raised. What determines the amount of the bid increment? The incremental amount is predetermined based on the current high bid on the item. The following table shows the amount of bid increments.

Current Price Bid Increment
$ 0.01 - $ 0.99 $ 0.05
$ 1.00 - $ 4.99 $ 0.25
$ 5.00 - $ 24.99 $ 0.50
$ 25.00 - $ 99.99 $ 1.00
$ 100.00 - $ 249.99 $ 2.50
$ 250.00 - $ 499.99 $ 5.00
$ 500.00 - $ 999.99 $ 10.00
$ 1000.00 - $ 2499.99 $ 25.00
$ 2500.00 - $ 4999.99 $ 50.00
$ 5000.00 and up $ 100.00
