Big Greene Tweed sockets
« on: October 03, 2012, 01:58:22 PM »
The larger sizes of the Greene Tweed Favorite Reversible Ratchet wrenches took very large sockets. The two sockets below are 3 1/2 inches and 4 inches long. The ratchet opening for the sockets was 2 3/8 inches.  Together, the sockets weigh a little over 4 pounds! The sockets are sized using an old fashioned system in effect in effect between 1890 -1910.

The No. 1  below is a small version of what the larger 4 and 5 ratchet handles look like. The socket opening is 1 3/4 inches in diameter for these 14 3/4 inch long No. 1 Greene Tweed ratchets.

I used to have all the ratchets, and other historic Greene, Tweed paraphernalia, but I sold most of it to Greene, Tweed when I retired from that Company

The one I used to have, I sold to a current employee of that company.

I have a small version. It is only 14 inch long and marked (NO. A) Wonder what the range of ratchets they made.

Good find, I have never seen sockets..

Still, the visual that comes to mind with the title...

..Big ; Green Tweed ; Sockets...

Chuckle
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.
