Two White wrenches - 886 M and 886 GE
« on: November 22, 2012, 11:13:50 AM »
Looking in the Rubbermaid tubs for something to throw on eBay, I came across a second White Steam Car wrench, a closed end 886 G E hub wrench.    I had earlier shown my White 886 M combination gas cap and wheel hub wrench for the 1909 M White Steam Car (In a conversation with Jay Leno about this wrench, he told me he owns a 1909 Model M).

The two 13-inch wrenches' openings fit the same size 2 1/2-inch hub nut. The 886 G E has the White Steam Car's script logo which appears on the grill of some of these cars.

I have decided to hang on to the 886 G E for a while longer.

GEE!!

Looking in the Rubbermaid tubs for something to throw on eBay

when I do that I find two old lego's,  an allen wrench,  and a claw hammer.

(In a conversation with Jay Leno about this wrench, he told me he owns a 1909 Model M).

I talked to my neighbor, he has a dodge minivan from 1989.

Quite a nice wrench BTW, I am a bit  envious....

Tis good, in 100 years it will be worth more, having been made by a company people have heard of ;P

WM: Any meaning to the square mark with an X in it under the number?
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Probably, but I don't know what it is.

Bob, I have three tool lists from White Parts Books in my auto tools reference binder. They all show the 886 hubcap wrench with a different suffix for each one.
1909 - 886-M (pictures hex box by open end wrench)
1912 - 886-O (pictures hex box by open end wrench)
1915 - 886-GE  (for White 2 ton truck) (pictures single hex box wrench)

Thank you, Bus!  I guess I've held on to it long enough!  I put a sticker on the back of this wrench so my heirs and assigns won't have to guess what it is for (as I did).

Any ideas about the "X" in the box?
