In addition to the tote with the new "worker" Proto stuff in it, I acquired a tote full of new Craftsman "Industrial" Tools. I went tot Adam O over at the Craftsman site and he said he thought they were 3rd party vendor tools for like Grainger or such. Any knowledge from our group on this subject. This 15/16" combo wrench rivals their Professional line of tools for sure. Of the over 400 pcs. in the tote. there was a bag of like 180 3/8" drive 8mm hex bit sockets......maybe one for each member of the list here????....lol...or as I say, "If you don't have one, then it's collectible"
IIRC, there's the 15/16"(11 of them), some 16mm combos(30+) that look more like the regular C-man combos, 3/8" dr. 1/2" 12pt deep wells(60+), and like 70+ of both the 1/4"dr. 5/16" and 7/16". Not sure how many ebayers are up for bulk purchases, so I split them into bags of 50/20/25/10 and maybe someone will run with it.

In the 50s probably up to the late 80s Sears had salesmen on the road going from shop to shop selling the Craftsman Industrial tools. They were priced below store price, and supposedly better quality, usually black oxide finish.
The line extended from basic hand tools clear through drill presses.

I know I have one of the Industrial electric Impact guns, an industrial router from the 60's(all metal"), and a couple other power tools labeled as such. Thanks AP

I've got one...no, two...of their industrial circular saws, both needing repair (bearings), that I like better than the modern stuff. The shoe is in two parts: if you remove one part, you've got an abbreviated shoe that lets you cut closer to a wall. I've never used that feature, but it's nice to know it's there.
The body is sandcast aluminum, and some marketing genius figured out that, if they left it in the rough sandcast state, they could market it as a "non-glare" finish, thus saving the cost of the polishing step AND making the money saved into a virtue at the sales point.

One of the big selling points of Craftsman INDUSTRIAL in the era of purchasing agents becoming part of industry was lower tool replacement costs.
The salesman stressed the finish would make employees not want to pocket the tool, and the INDUSTRIAL stamp would induce paranoia against a man getting caught with a tool that was not sold to individuals.
Young guys need to realize this was in the pre-Miranda era where an employer thought it was acceptable to visit an employee's home shop and look around. Men kept receipts for tools they owned, often in one drawer of the tool box. You damn well had better be able to prove it was your tool.

In the 70s, I bought lots of used tools for my motorcycle shop and had receipts for all of them. I once bought a top and bottom box full of tools that had the PO's name on each tool. I had him sign a list of all the tools as a receipt!

I sold a lot of misc, C-man sockets on feebay that wouldn't sell @the flee market. I was pleased with the price and was dam glad I didn't have to handle them anymore! Alot of them are dead meet, esp. standards.

Everybody and their brother got craftsman tools for christmas, and most of them sat in the garage in a pretty box. There are thousands and thousands of them around, so , they tend to be rather valueless as used tools. Which is sorta too bad, the older tools were made by good tool companies and are perfectly good tools..

Rusty, I reently unloaded a huge lot of Craftsman V series and older stuff in a large C-man cantilever box...weighed like120#. I had another regular metal box of newer C-man stuff(but no Taiwan) and he wanted both. Let is all go for $550 and he was glad to get it all. I've started another pile this weekend in addition to all the new stuff. It will be a challenge to unload 188 8mm allen head 3/8" drive sockets, even if I do 50's in zip lock baggies. Have to find the "right" entrepreneur.....lol. I find the folks looking for used Craftsman tools are putting together a traveling set for a truck or automotive trunk emergency repair set, or a set for a teenager just getting started. Then dad starts digging through my SK and Proto stuff for his "goody bag".
NO doubt there are thousands of them out there, and in the past flea market set ups, the Craftsman stuff has not sold well.

NEW Craftsman "industrial" tools are current production and still USA made.
I don't know who makes them but the wrenches are just like the old raised panel wrenches, not like the new china "lobster claw" wrenches they sell.
this was as of last year. I haven't kept up on it. I assume they were going to lose some lucrative commercial account due to switching to china manufacture, and they offered to keep a USA line to keep them happy. that is just my speculation.
I do have some recently purchased "industrial" craftsman.
