Its big, heavy and so ugly its cool. No idea what its used for but id sure like to know. Came from an old barn in California farm country.
-
Forgot to mention...it has a faint marking. CarCo or GarCo. Railroad maybe?

neat piece

That's a wild one alright! Looks like a spanner wrench lug on the right hand end...and what's with that cross-shaped opening on the left? Crazy.
-
Looks like 2 of the openings on the spanner end get wider as they go in,
might be just the pic though.
-
The hook on the right is similar to those used as tie rod adjusting wrenches.
I am jiggling my memory box for a company that sold auto alignment machinery.
Gar..?

Almost certainly CarCo. This thing is so big I'm almost leaning railroad. Not sure where they would use the spanner hook tho.

Possibly on a turnbuckle ?

does the hook end look like it could be used on the gland nut (packing nut) on a locomotive steam pump ???

Turnnut.... You read my mind about it being used on some type of gland or packing nut. You may be on to something...
