Title: DRP Pliers Punch Rivet Press Tool
Post by: wvtools on April 24, 2014, 01:44:49 PM
Here is the last one in this batch.  This one should be it for awhile.  It is marked DRP, which I think stands for Deutsches Reichspatent (pre-1945 German patent).  It is also marked 31225164.  It looks like some sort of rivet press/punch, and kind of has a military or government look to me.

All that compound action must make it good for a tough job!

will it punch a hole in sheet metal ???

from the picture, the body looks strong enough to do it.
but not too sure of the punch & plate.

It kind of looks like a sheet metal countersink and punch.  Maybe it does that and puts a rivet in too.  I will have to try it on a piece of sheet metal and see what it does.

EDIT:  I just tried it out on a piece of 20 gauge sheet metal, and it easily and neatly punched a hole and made a dimple/countersink the size and shape of the moving die.

I was thinking the same thing. That mechanism is as impressive as it is complex.

It has quite a bit of leverage; 4 7/8 inches of travel on the end of the handles gives 11/32 inch of travel in the punch, with the last 3 7/8 inches of travel in the handles moving the punch the last 3/32 as it goes through the sheet metal.

I always hate when I sell a neat tool like this on Ebay, and it ends up going for the starting bid of 9.99 plus shipping.  I think I will either start this one higher or keep it for myself.

if you sold it today, in a week or so, you will start a project and wish you had it.

look at it for a while, it's not costing money.

It is wvtools.  I have an Ebay Store with 1200+ items.  I try to run 25-50 auctions per week, but it usually slacks off in the summer when I go to flea markets and shows.
