Title: 6 in Reed pipe wrench
Post by: jimwrench on July 03, 2014, 09:47:43 PM
Don't know who or what this is supposed to be. Its a Reed RW6 pipe wrench but its has a gold shine that pictures don,t do justice. I thought it might be some promotional piece and the auctioneer thought someone had way too much free time at work. Anywho I now have the shinest RW6 pipe wrench in town.

It might have been a retirement gift. I stole a co workers favorite adjustable wrench and the crew had it chrome plated and mounted on a wooden display rack. We gave it to him at his retirement party.
He couldn't apologize enough for calling us all a bunch of thieves for the last month.
Great fun , and he really enjoyed it.

Given what plumbers charge these days, all his tools were probablygold plated ;P

Very pretty, and certainly not something just everyone has lying around...

For what they have to do sometimes I think they are worth every dime. Even more.

Some people (I know you aren't one of them,  Rusty) deserve to pay more. I'm thinking of those that flush or pour what they shouldn't,  those that try to DIY and mess it up, and the rich ones in fancy homes who constantly complain about the rates the plumber charges but have no problem overbilling for their own time.

Jim,

Is that 2nd one plated or aluminum?

Does anyone know when aluminum pipe wrenches were introduced or widely accepted?

J. H. Williams introduced theirs in 1950, Toledo offered theirs in 1957...

All of them were fabulously expensive.....
