Title: A Whatsit
Post by: lebaron on July 08, 2014, 03:43:29 PM
Marked M.S. & S Phila. Shaft has a fine thread on the end. One has a straight slot for adjusting, the other two are curved. Any idea what this is for.

kinda reminds me of the bottom of a theodolite, or something that needs to be really level.

Could this be a centering holder for a very light use lathe?   Until it was turned over, the first pic looked like a piece out of a fishing reel I disassembled one time.  Those little jaws are intriguing, I can see where a less than perfectly round I could be held by them, then put in a lathe.     Do you have any more parts to this puzzle?

Hi. Maybe used for leveling something, I don't know. Here are pics of another piece that was in the same box. Sort of the same principal. They spin in in out. That's it for parts.

I am reminded of a few things:
1. Watchmakers or clockmaker tools
2. Alignment tools.
3. The first one reminded me of some cream seperator parts.

I can't understand what the angled holes innthe first one do.

Watchmakers or clockmaker tools

Bingo. You the man, Chilly. John K. You were on the right track. In the second box in the link. I guess its called a pivot plate for a watchmakers lathe. Now about the second piece?

Along the same track, could they be for removing backs, covers, or bezels?
