Title: APCO 437 puller
Post by: bgarrett on August 26, 2014, 09:03:29 PM
I would like to find out what this puller was used for.  There is a completed ebay auction    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Model-T-APCO-Mossberg-437-Hub-Wheel-Puller-Tool-Vintage-Very-Nice-/271165905943   claiming it is a wheel puller but I dont think thats right because this puller would damage the wood spokes and there is another Apco tool made for Model T wheels.  http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/179374/207176.html  As you can see the correct tool doesnt damage the spokes.
Alloy Artifacts says---- In 1927 the Frank Mossberg Company merged with the Auto Parts Company (APCO) to become the APCO-Mossberg Company. APCO was based in Providence, Rhode Island and specialized in automotive parts and service tools for the Model T Ford.

That would hook behind the metal hub , but looks like it could mar the wood spokes.
I don't think they were to " Fussy" about it back in the day when they were every day transportation.
Probably glad to get the wheel / hub off.
It could have been better designed.

the hooks could have been lined with leather, just like the old tire saver jacks
that lined the cradle with leather to prevent marring the hub caps when the folks
put their automobile away for the winter.

older tires were known for making flat spots on the tires from sitting to long
in one spot.
