Does anyone have hex drive sockets that are the same OD at drive end and have a 1/2 round ring around the OD at top like ste one shown in the Pat # 1438900 dtd Dec 12 1922. I would like at least one of each size 1/4 & 1/2 hex drive. Chuck Garrett

Chuck,
I'm wondering if maybe this isn't just "artistic license" on the part of the inventor for the patent drawing. This would be a rather difficult and expensive way to make a socket.
It would be easier to just add some material to the overall thickness if the idea was to gain additional strength.
Have you seen any like this?

Unless you are making it on a screw machine...
Then it is just material you don't have to remove...

I know they exist but not sure whether 1/4 0r 1/2 hex drive. I think maybe 1/4 drive as they are listed as 5/16 thru 1/2 size. At least 2 catalogs list them in the 20s I think.

There are oddball drive sizes used for hex besides 1/4 and 1/2, like 5/16....
