Title: Why did this auction so high?
Post by: rev1 on September 01, 2011, 08:14:20 PM
Can someone tell me what is so special about this small Pexto monkey wrench that went for over $140?

Look at the bid history.  Everything was looking pretty ordinary, and then d***n bumped up the price from $28 to $144 in the last seconds of the auction. (Ewww, Gross, man)  2***v just had to have it (and d***n might have had to keep bumping up to match 2***v's bid)  Five seconds later (!!) 2***v did the swoop thing and got it.  Auction madness.

Thanks for the input.  I know that the smaller sizes are in demand and I agree that it looked in very good condition.    I didn't look at the bid history to see that it was last second craziness.

rev1,

May I point out:

It is a sweet little wrench!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It screams OWN ME!

Things get out of hand sometimes.

And I'd like to point out, if I'd done this, my sweet little wife would be the one who was screaming!

Good point bonnyman.  You'll note, I didn't say you should have bought it, I was simply pointing out some reasons why the buyer might have made the purchase.

Lager version?  I prefer stout. <g>  I picked up a larger Samson myself this summer.  Paid maybe $5 for it.  Nice wrenches.

Pexto mark??
I have an identical wrench but mine is unmarked, I think.
I would toss in a couple more 6" monkeys for 146 dollars!! Geeeeze!

Maybe the tide is turning and 6" monkey wrenches are finally going to be collectible?
I started gathering them when they were about free. In fact I have recommended 6"ers to several newbies as a collecting category. Nobody wanted them for any price once.
I always figured they would go up eventually.
I sold about 1/3 of mine one time, in a lapse of reason.
 yours Scott

Why did this Gearwrench go so high? The 8 inch self adjusting pipe wrench I think they were made in Texas someplace. This one sold for $480.75!!!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/260847005304?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

They come up all the time on eBay but this has to be the highest I have seen them go.

I thought I had remembered seeing that somewhere before.

But then again, I had to look at my cell phone to see what the date was and then look at the calendar to see what day of the week the date fell on to fill my timecard out at the end of the day today....(been a tough week ... )

I just checked a few of the seller's past auctions and several of his wrenches have gone for completely ridiculous prices. It seems like the same two bidders have been making most of the high bids and one of the winning bidders has only bid on this sellers auctions???

What's interesting is: the same seller and the same two highest bidders.  Hmmm.

Some people have money to burn, and they burn it.

How come I'm not one of those persons??!!! Just kidding. I've got all the money I need. I can almost always pay my bills, I've got a car that continues to serve me well after owning it for 19 years (the only car I've ever owned), ... what else can I ask for?... OK, a few good wrench finds....
cheers, bird
