I recently got a passel of machine tool things and I am woefully ignorant in the field.
This appears to be some sort of gear changer or speed reducer along with a box of gears.
Are there any machinists here that can give me a clue as to what I have?

Holding out on us? Wicked awesome battery charger :)
Thing above looks like part of a thread drive for a lathe or addon to make some machine index or thread, B&S made too many weird things like that :(
(They were also makers of gear hobbing machines, which need index gearing to make different gears, or master pattern gears...)

I drooled over that battery charger, too!!!

It fits on the end of an older type milling machine table, there would be a gear there to mesh with it. it was then used to drive different heads for milling gears etc. Long, long time since I've done any of that stuff.

Thanks for the help!
the charger is an Exide Dyna-cel, I think from the 60's.
I believe it used to belong to George Jetson, or his boy, Elroy.
I have a garage junkie neighbor who makes 'things' out of old service station equipment.
He has a kegerator made from a lubester.
he replaced the oscilloscope from a big Sun tester with a flat screen TV.
This will be a cocktail table with a glass top.
It's missing a chrome hoop around the top, the covers for the gauges, and no it doesn't work.
And I am selective about what I sell him, he only gets things that will never work again.

Batz on the target, many old horizontal milling machines have auxiliary drive shaft that would connect to this this would rotate the work in the machine.
My lubester is too nice to cut up an put the kegerator in it, almost all my old Sun and Allen analyzers work so I haven't had the urge to swap the screen for a TV. I've got Bose Rogen(wild rye) from Excel Bottling on tap right now! In November a brown ale will be on tap!
