I bought a lathe at an estate sale and this tool can with it. I has no identifiable markings or numbers and for the life of me I don't know what it is. Don't know whether to sell it or throw it away. Can someone help? Thanks

Looks like a vise for a hand saw . Used to hold the saw to sharpen and set the teeth.
Could also be for leather work. Would help to have a larger photo with something common ,
like a spray can , to give idea of size.
Any names or locations?

Here's another look at it. It's 9 1/2 inches in length.

It is a saw sharpening vise.

I agree 100% on it being a hand saw sharpening vise.
I have used mine to bend small pieces of sheetmetal.

Definitely a saw vise. Looks in good condition as far as I can tell by pic.

It's a saw set vise, but Any makers marks?

Why would you throw away a perfectly good tool? Why would anyone throw away any tools?

Looks like a Wentworth saw vise. It's a good vise for hand sharpening hand, rip and back saws. Keep it, you never know when you might take up the challenge!
