Looks like maybe a side ax and he has it on the side. Always admired his talent but hadn't noticed what a handsome devil he was.
You can almost see the maker's mark, Do you think they used a real axe instead of a prop?

Pretty sure it's a real ax (and a real pistol). Back in those days, most props were the real thing.
