About 5' long. Not used very often but is very useful when needed.

What's it for ?
Holding a wheel to loosen bearings?

Close enough. It is a doohickey for stopping the hub turning when you undo or do up the hub nut on a VW, 220 ftlb.

If you were using it on a full bodied car I think you would have to have one arm on it only.

Nicely made . Here's a photo of KD solution , striking wrench.
Most guys use an impact wrench , but you don't always have a compressor handy.
-
Just as useful doing the hub nut back up.

Much better than the 2x4 we used.
Did you make that one Rural?

Lostmind; I just saw a 1980 KD catalog on e-bay, they had you KD 2377 wrench, ad reads;
VW axle nut wrench K-D 2377
removes "frozen" VW axle nuts, 36mm, strike with hammer to break nuts free.
A 1/2" square opening on the tool allows mechanic to use a racher drive or a breaker bar.
sturdy forged wrench is heat treated and plated.

Thanks turnnut , I picked it up with some other items out of curiosity.
I found out what it was , and soon determined I had no use for it.
It's for sale , like most of the other items I bring home and find out I don't need.
A tool from a different era. Now most guys that fool with old VW's have a full set of tools and several impact wrenches.
I see the use though if you're out on the trail and need to make a repair.

That nut is usually done up damn tight - you need a good lever to undo it.... Flogging spanner is a good idea - you probably don;t even need the holding bar if you use one of those... the inertia of the hub will suffice....

No, a friend of mine made it. Between him, his wife, his son and me we have four buggies with VW Beetle transaxles so this gets used regularly.

Yeap, 3/4" drive and a six foot cheater bar is useful.
