Title: Anyone else find that building sets of tools is addictive???
Post by: keykeeper on September 14, 2011, 03:18:08 PM
Just a thought I've had recently, maybe I'm slightly obsessive/compulsive--- I really love finding and completing sets of tools!!

I used to be like this back in the mid-90's with baseball cards, now I'm setting on about 50,000 plus cards in my closet.

Now, my wife says "What do you need another wrench for???" "For the SET I'm working on, Dear!!!"

Actually, it must be the collector mentality, as I get infatuated with finding more of what I like, then, BOOM, it's a collection.

Is there any hope?????

Collections to date:
-vintage cigarette lighters
-alcohol torches
-A&W Root Beer Mugs
-Carbide Mining Lamps
-Coal Mine Scrip
-Antique stoneware
-Antique Toys
-Baseball Cards
-Blacksmithing Tools (I actually use these!)
-Any vintage USA made tools I like
-Coleman Lanterns (liquid fuel, pump type)

If I could unload all this stuff for a decent price, I'd be sitting on a pile of cash. I think I may start carting some of it to auctions.

Sorry for the ramble.....Let's hear your thoughts on collecting, and when is enough really enough.

Man, I didn't see "all 50 states" collection of salt and pepper shakers in your list.  WHAT's wrong with you??? You're not even budging the  OCD needle, much less the "hoarder" needle.  My collection addiction at this point is to collect different brand names of stuff(even if it's just one socket or screwdriver at this stage), although I'm working on Plomb and Hinsdale for collection purposes.  Bonney, Herbrand, Blackhawk, and SK won't be far behind.

Could it be that WD-40 is the new Methadone????

YMMV

That's not Richter scale-shaking, but I did see the needle flinch.....

I disagree with you guys!  We are fine. It is the rest of the world that is weird.

It's cheaper than jewelry, and not as dangerous as drugs. I'd say chrome is the safest collectible. Plus, you can always use them.
