Title: another What are they?

brass body sort of like a lamp on a car but much deeper, thought maybe some type of tester adapter but?  no numbers or lettering that I can see.

The spring looks like it contacts something, like the springs in battery operated things, flashlights etc.

How springy are they?

I can see the dimple on both, does the other have a slot also? do they line up with each other or offset? does the springs come off? or are they secured from turning?  with the dimples & slots looks like they should slide on another piece with matching slots & pins. (since they don't slide on each other)..  maybe a toilet paper roll holder?

like a wimpy spring? 
sort of look like a lamp socket but why so long? they don't look like they have been used.

Light socket should have the center spring insolated from the housing & a bayonet slot to lock it in.. can't be electrical...

agreed, it's weird!  that is why I posted it. just can't recycle them!
