Title: Across Faces
Post by: Northwoods on September 01, 2015, 09:56:56 AM
I'm sure I am not telling you anything you don't already know, but I learned something new yesterday and want to share it.
Cleaning up some old wrenches, I came across a little 9/16 A/F ---5/8 A/F open end wrench marked LISTER on one side and ENGLAND on the other.
I had no idea what A/F meant.  After some searching, I learned it stands for "across faces" and learned a little more about the different systems for wrench sizes.
And it is a cute little thing.

Or "Across Flats" which means the same thing & is basically how we now label wrench & socket sizes.

Good grief!
Of course, you are right.  Thanks for keeping me from spreading nonsense on the site.
My memory is going.  BTW, where did I put my glasses and my phone and the TV remote????
