Title: M4 Sherman 75mm recoil cylinder spanner
Post by: moparthug on January 11, 2016, 07:24:28 PM
This one was tough to track down, it was mixed in with a box of old tractor wrenches so I assumed that's what it was. No makers mark, but a very clear part number of TKLXI-B. After Google sent me down the military path I finally found it. Ordnance maintenance adjustable spanner, 75mm recoil cylinder, M4 (Sherman tank) and M6 (B52 Mitchell). May be post war as that 75mm design was still around for some time. 11-1/2 long and weighs in at a pound and a half. This is my strange find for the week.

Cool find, and good job on the research.

Now you need to get yourself a Sherman tank so you can put that wrench to work.

The 75MM main gun on the Sherman, was installed in the nose of the B-25 Mitchel bomber for use in the South Pacific.  Whole long story about that.  Was used as a bridge buster, and think it even sank some small ships.   Standing in the turret of a tank when the main gun goes off is an experience I'll never forget.

I'm reminded of the time I got a Whitworth wrench as part of a box lot and gave it to my brother as the first step to building his own British sports car.

That is such a cool pease of history the stories it could tell.
