Title: Vaughan & Bushnell Pliers
Post by: lptools on January 27, 2016, 06:40:34 PM
Hello, I dug this out of the pliers bin, had to take a wire brush to the label area. I believe it is a Vaughan & Bushnell No. 3 Nut Pliers (6" long) with wire cutter. My concerns are, did this ever have a screwdriver blade at the handle end? May have been ground by former owner. Also, I was unable to find these anywhere other than old trade publications, are these rare? They seem to be worn, the handles seem to come together too closely. Thanks, Lou

Pliers with a similar pattern are being sold (on the Bay) as battery pliers.  If they are battery pliers, then the jaws are not meant to come together all the way and the handles would meet or almost meet.

They look like glass cutter's pliers. I've got a similar pair somwhere.

Nut pliers for battery bolts, or nuts in "hard to reach places" (in the days before reliable socket sets).  As  others note, the jaws are not meant to come together completely, but grip sides of nuts so the closest they'd need to be to each other is approx. 3/8 inch.  The handle ends would have been smooth or they'd rip a big hunk out of your palm as you were trying to unscrew a rusted nut.

Here's a decent pair on eBay as a lot with other odds and ends...there's a good close-up of the logo in one of the pics...

Hello, All. Thanks for the info. I found a description of these, but I could not figure out how to send the link. If you want to take a look, Google Vaughan & Bushnell Nut Pliers, and look for Automobile Trade Journal ,  should be the 4th heading from the top of the list. Regards, Lou
